My son, the would-be Marine

See the photo? See the dude standing in the middle in the Marine dress uni? Okay, get a load of this ... my son has decided that he wants one. One never knows what Eli will gravitate towards, and surprisingly he has latched on to this. Evidently, Eli has been playing the DVD of A Few Good Men lately in his little portable DVD player (intermittedly, mind you, of Arthur and Seinfeld). If y'all have seen the movie you'll remember the scene where the guy who is supposed to testify the following day ... getting dressed for his impending suicide. It is THIS scene that Eli has played over and over again (minus the suicide).

He came to me sometime last week and said, "Mommy, I want a uniform like that." I sat for a while ... asked a ton of questions ... and HE HAS BEEN BUGGING ME EVER SINCE. So ... I got on the Internet to see what I could find. Eli was VERY specific about what he wanted .... so I searched, and I searched, and I searched. Finally ... hallelujah! ... I found one! I could only find one small enough that was new ... no luck finding one used (even on Ebay) ... or one that passed the "Eli litmus test," so it looks as if I am ordering the $128 uniform. It was listed at $185, but because it's an extra small I was able to get it for cheaper.

So ... stay tuned for photos of my handsome son in all his glory ...

This is gonna be interesting ...

Tell your young jar-head, er Marine, that Aunt D.D. would feel safer with him as my personal soldier and I look forward to a personal full dress inspection at Christmas. What an exciting life you lead, Jen.

Yeah, thrill a minute ...

I will make sure that Eli brings his uniform to Texas when we come home for Christmas. The first thing Eli asked this morning when I woke him up was, "is my uniform here yet? Did Santa leave it for me?" After I assured him that Santa Claus would probably bring him one if he asked him for it, it was the UPS man who was going to bring it next week.

He's so darn cute in regular clothes, I can't wait to see him in a uniform. When I was talking to Mom on the phone the other night, Eli was tugging on my shirt saying, "Tell Nana about my uniform ... tell Nana about my uniform." Now I can tell him that I told Aunt D.D. about his uni ... he'll LOVE that.

On another note, Amanda replied to a post Hannah made on her MySpace ... made her day! You'll have to check out Hannah's MySpace page ... it is cute ...

No offense, but you should tell your little boy that this Uniform is something no anyone gets to wear. This is something you have to EARN. It is a priveledge that young men have to earn to wear. My son was a Marine, killed in Iraq. I find it distateful that you treat it like a Halloween costume. It's not. I also find it disrespectful because your son does not know what he has to do to earn the priveledge to wear that Uniform. Mom of a Marine KIA
