Important Information

My dear friend, Donna Kay, sent me a forwarded email that contained a letter (see it below) warning about the dangers of hand sanitizer. Donna checked the story out on www.snopes.com, and apparently the story is true. I know too many of my friends (and perhaps other readers) have small children. I'd hate for this to happen to one of them.

Ok. I don't know where to begin because the last 2 days of my life have been such a blur. Yesterday my youngest daughter Halle, who is 4, was rushed to the emergency room by her father for being severely lethargic and incoherent. He was called to her school by the school secretary for being "very VERY sick." He told me that when he arrived that Halle was barely sitting in the chair. She couldn't hold her own head up and when he looked into her eyes, she couldn't focus them.

He immediately called me after he scooped her up and rushed her to the ER. When we got there they ran blood test after blood test and did x-rays, and every test imaginable. Her white blood cell count was normal, nothing was out of the ordinary. The ER doctor told us that he had done everything that he could do so he was sending her to Saint Francis for further testing.

Right when we were leaving in the ambulance, her teacher had come to the ER because after questioning Halle's classmates, we found out that she had licked hand sanitizer off her hand. Hand sanitizer of all things! But it makes sense. These days they have all kinds of different scents and when you have a curious child, they are going to put all kinds of things in their mouths.

When we arrived at Saint Francis, we told the ER doctor there to check her blood alcohol level, which, yes we did get weird looks from it but they did it. The results were her blood alcohol level was 85% and this was 6 hours after we first took her. There's no telling what it would have been if we would have tested it at the first ER.

Since then, her school and a few surrounding schools have taken this out of the classrooms of all the lower grade classes but what's to stop middle and high schoolers, too? After doing research off the Internet, we have found that it only takes 3 squirts of the stuff to be fatal in a toddler. For her blood alcohol level to be so high was to compare someone her size to drinking something 120 proof. So please PLEASE don't disregard this because I don't ever want anyone to go through what my family and I have gone through.

That's it. I deleted the names and everything because in the end it doesn't matter who it happened to ... only that they were smart enough to put the word out. Again, this story was checked out to be true, but for those of you who HAVE to do your own research - more power to you.

Mother's Day ... early

I am overwhelmed today. The day before Mother's Day and I've already been inundated with gifts. It was totally unexpected and completely unnecessary, but my husband has surprised me ... absolutely surprised me.
First, I was impressed that he even knew the name of the perfume I wear ... secondly, I was impressed that he bought me the perfume, powder, and body lotion. I love to layer my perfume, and somehow he paid attention. Kudos to the Lindquist.

The second overwhelming gift would normally be taboo on Mother's Day ... but this time I've made an exception. As you can see from the photo, it's a Dyson. I know Will is looking at it and saying to himself, "It's a freakin' vacuum." Some may think that, but I know there are those out there who KNOW what a Dyson is. I've yearned for one of these things for years ... that is, if one can actually yearn for a vacuum ... and now I have one. When we took it out of the box we did so very gingerly because if it didn't live up to the $500 price tag, we were going to pack it right back up.

Well ... lemme assure all of you. IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY. I can move from tile to wood to shag carpet ... back to tile ... all with ease and the same great effect. C L E A N. It is lightweight and very manuverable. I LOVE IT! Having a larger house has been nice, but cleaning nearly 4000 square feet of tile, carpet, and wood ... has NOT been nice. Now ... I look forward to cleaning the tile.

Who'da thunk I'd be excited about a vacuum? I'd expect my sister D.D. to be as excited as I am! I must give her a call!

Happy Mother's Day to all my friends and family!

Wild Kingdom

This is becoming quite interesting ... yesterday, two horses. Today, a beautiful peacock. What, pray tell, will show up on our property tomorrow?

Interesting Homecoming

Well, this is a first ... when one considers all of the strange things one sees ... this takes the cake ... er, make that "takes the horse."

File this in the "how weird is this?" file. This is the view I had as I drove in my driveway today. They belong to the plantation owners and live across the road from us. I think they're smarter than the owners ... :)

Enjoy ...

Willie Harris

I know this is a small photo, but it was the only one I could find with Willie Harris in a Braves uni. So ... why the hell am I posting about Willie Harris? Who is he? What has he done that has propelled me to post about him?
Well, for starters ... he's from Cairo, Georgia. That's Grady County ... and there, they are cooouuuuuuuunnntreeeeeeeee! I've never met Willie Harris, but I am definitely looking forward to that day ... I'll determine then if he is actually country ...
Oh, and yes ... I will meet this guy. Ya see, his fiancee is a former student of mine ... and his soon-to-be-mother-in-law is a CURRENT student of mine! Willie was just called up from Triple A Richmond two days ago ... and when I got the word I almost screamed! This is the coolest thing in my world right now (graduation week is upon us so this is a GREAT distraction).
The game was great tonight (http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/news/gameday_recap.jsp?ymd=20070502&content_id=1943033&vkey=recap&fext=.jsp&c_id=atl). I am excited about tomorrow, too, which will also be great. Anita, Willie's mother-in-law-to-be, is coming by my office with a signed baseball ... signed from Willie!
Do y'all have ANY idea how much I'm hoping to meet him in person? Get tickets to a game? Get invited to the wedding? Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh geeez ... this is too much ... gotta lie down ...
My oh my ... now all I have to do is meet someone related to Smoltz ...
:-)
