Well, it's been a few days since I've posted ... I know I've been a slacker ... ahem, but ONLY with the blog. I've been swamped at work and experiencing a few ills (nothing serious), so I've been busy with other things.
With regards to the house ... we're spending this weekend cleaning real good so the carpet can be laid in the master bedroom, master closets, exercise/recreation room, and the extra bedroom. I found the most beautiful carpet for the master bedroom ... it has just a hint of sage in a neutral background, so it will tie into the wall color fabulously. I didn't care too much about the carpet in the extra bedroom, so I found something neutral. The exercise/recreation room will have a commercial grade carpet, but Ron isn't crazy about the one I chose. No worries ... I'll go and pick out another one tomorrow. I pick my battles, and this carpet (exercise room) means little to me.
Okay, so Tuesday the cabinet maker extraordinaire will return to install the kitchen island and finish up some odds and ends (put on the cabinet knobs and such). The next two days we will see the countertop man come in and make me very happy. The granite countertops are finally cut and finished, so he will come in for two days and install all the countertops. The following Monday (that would be the first week of December), the plumber comes in and installs all of the fixtures. Somewhere in between the cabinet maker, the countertop guy, and the plumber ... the rest of the crown molding and trim will be completed. Also, the columns in the dining room need to be put in and painted. Oh yeah ... and the stairs will be done, too. We've purchased the wood for the stairs so that should begin any day, too. Once the cabinets and countertops in the kitchen are finished, the appliance guy can come in and install the gas stovetop, the refrigerator, the dishwasher, and the washer/dryer. I'll be sooooo glad to get those appliances out of the dining room! The only real hold-up will be the glass company. The shower in the master bathroom cannot be completed until mid December. Apparently the glass that I ordered for the door and the sides of the shower has to be made. I didn't want any metal showing on any of it ... I only wanted GLASS (I hate that silver band around the whole glass), so the only metal will be brushed nickel (to match the fixtures) brackets screwed into the tile but even those are very unassuming. Even the handle that opens the door will be glass, so I think it will be worth the wait. I know I may be "playing with fire" by having an all glass door, but both kids have their own bathroom - this will cut down on the chance that it will damaged or broken. If it breaks only Ron and I will be responsible.
We've had a quiet Thanksgiving for which I'm VERY thankful. The photo above is my turkey. This is the second year I brined a turkey ... and the second year that it is too delicious for words. I love Williams-Sonoma ... I order the turkey brine and turkey seasonings for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Kinda like a gift to myself. I have my eye on the copper dutch oven, but so far I only ordered the brine :(
I could use this posting to list all that I'm thankful for, but I'm too tired! I think I'm going to sit with Eli and watch Arthur instead :) Suffice to say I have TONS to be thankful for ... and I realize how lucky I really am.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Ha ha ha ... you know I referring to PBS' Arthur. You don't even take a smart-ass break for the holidays!
Ahh, yes ... the squirrel. Well, upon reading your post (which, by the way, you did not sign and I wasn't sure if it was you or Ron) I deleted the post. I thought my little story had angered Ron, but when I asked him about it he said he never wrote anything! I could have shot myself for deleting it! It was a good story ... and I think others would have thought it was good, too. There is no way I'm going to remember everything I wrote, so I won't even try.
But since we're on the subject ... you think bringing ROADKILL to the taxidermist is justified? Wait ... who the hell do I think I'm asking ... of course you do!
It's a fox squirrel. Have 3 Beer Boy esplain it to ju.
Uh, DD, about those Aggies...
To D.D.,
Not to worry about the lack of a Thanksgiving call. I didn't call you either!! We're even! Plus, I knew that Tyler and Amanda would be home ... since it's rare that you have them together in one room anymore (both going to different colleges in different states), I didn't want to rain on your parade. I didn't talk to Mom until later that night anyway. Since our Thanksgiving is in a transition period (between houses), I didn't go nuts over the holiday. Hannah and I still spent several hours in the kitchen together preparing different things (see, I like tradition, too), but Ron was hunting and then began working on the house again.
Mom told me about Peggy. So sorry to hear about the lung cancer, and more sorry to hear this may be her last Thanksgiving with Jerry. With regards to OUR mom, I'm glad she spent it with your family. I know she, Mike, and Miyah could have "done" Thanksgiving together, it's nice to think of all of you together. I may not have been there physically, but all of you were on my mind.
So ... you think my daughter looks like Selena? My oh my ... I never see any latin influences in her (besides her skin during the summer), so I like that suggestion! I'll have to tell her ...
Oh ... and your vacation days ... just let me know when and I'll set up some fishing and golf for Jerry. A dear friend of mine, Gretchen, is married to a BIG fisherman!! He has the huge boat and everything. As far as golf, I think I'll see if someone other than Troy can go golfing with him. Just let me know when ... I have a flexible job (except during peak times like registration), so I can accommodate most any weeks. I haven't decided where to go for a conference this year or when. I'm considering Arizona ... I've never been there so the idea piques my interest. Anyway, let me know.
Ahem ... to Will ...
It has been "splained" to me by Ricky the significance of a fox squirrel. Yeah, yeah ... they're all grey and white ... not a typical squirrel ... got it. BUT IT DOESN'T CHANGE THE FACT THAT IT WAS ROADKILL. I'm still thinking about the plaque I am going to get for the base ... any ideas?
Mount it on a tree branch that can be hung on the wall. My brother has 3 together like that (he shot his). And don't act like you're embarrased about it being roadkill. Admit it, this is the 1st "pick-up" that you DIDN'T cook.
I'm telling you, the taxidermist HAS to put the squirrel cowering in abject horror, his little front paws over his eyes to shield the oncoming truck from his vision! The plaque should say simply, " $250 roadkill".
